KING LEAR Roy Bowen Theatre 10/31-11/10/2012
A royal family gathers for Christmas. The father broadcasts his seasonal message: he's giving up work and dividing his kingdom. With this misjudged act the natural order is upturned and the scene is set for a story of family break-up, homelessness and heartbreak.
In this new edited version, King Lear is brought vibrantly to life for schools, families and younger audiences. Stripped down to 75 minutes, the production is a thrilling and accessible introduction to one of the greatest plays ever written. Each public performance is followed by a 20 minute question and answer session with the actors.
This event is possible as a result of the ongoing collaboration between The Ohio State University and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD Thurber Theatre 11/7-11/11/2012
The Ohio State University Department of Theatre and School of Music team up to present The Mystery of Edwin Drood, a musical based on the unfinished Charles Dickens novel "The Mystery of Edwin Drood." Written by Rupert Holmes, Drood was the first Broadway musical with multiple endings (determined by audience vote). Holmes received Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Original Score. The musical won five Tony Awards out of eleven nominations, including Best Musical.
The story itself deals with John Jasper, a Jekyll-and-Hyde choirmaster who is quite madly in love with his music student, the fair Miss Rosa Bud. Now, Miss Bud is, in turn, engaged to Jasper's nephew, young Edwin Drood. Our title character disappears mysteriously one stormy Christmas Eve-but has Edwin Drood been murdered? And if so, then whodunnit? Musical numbers include The Wage of Sin, Perfect Strangers, Both Sides of the Coin, Don't Quit While You're Ahead and Moonfall. The giddy playfullness of this play-within-a-play draws the audience to vote on the solution as prelude to the most unusual and hilarious finale!

THE KING AND I Mansfield Playhouse 11/2-11/11/2012
The 'G2K' Getting To Know Series: Uniquely adapted musicals specifically for youth performers. East versus West makes for a dramatic, richly textured and ultimately uplifting tale of enormous fascination. It is 1862 in Siam when an English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the King to serve as tutor to his many children and wives. The King is largely considered to be a barbarian by those in the West and he seeks Anna's assistance in changing his image, if not his ways. With both keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King grow to understand and, eventually, respect one another, in a truly unique love story. In this adaptation for pre-high school students, the content has been edited to better suit younger attention spans, but all the magic and beauty of the original are still in place. You and your students will be enchanted by the timeless story and the dazzling score, while at the same time learning about theater and its production. OKLAHOMA! Loveland Stage Company 11/1-11/17/2012
The 'G2K' Getting To Know Series: Uniquely adapted musicals specifically for youth performers. Rodgers & Hammerstein's first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, having set the standards and established the rules of musical theatre still being followed today. Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. Although the road to true love never runs smooth, with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love's journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. That they will succeed in making a new life together we have no doubt, and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA! In this adaptation for pre-high school students, the content has been edited to better suit younger attention spans, but all the elements that make this show a classic are still in place. You and your students will be enchanted by the timeless story and the dazzling score, while at the same time learning about theater and its production. CHRISTMAS PAGEANT CRISIS Mystery & Mayhem Dinner Theatre 11/6-12/27/2012
The Glad Tidings Players perform a Christmas Pageant every year. Their claim to fame, so to speak, derives from the same two performers playing the lead roles for the last ten years. This year marks a record-breaking accomplishment for the most consecutive years with the same leads. But problems abound this year. The angels are on strike; The Farmer who loans the animals sold his farm; the shepherds are allergic to hay; the stage manager is nuttier than a fruit cake; and the stable is condemned. Will the Glad Tidings Players present the Pageant and shine and bask in the glow of accomplishment, or will they have an epiphany as they mull over what to do next? You'll not want to miss this hilarious Holiday Who-done-it.
