Erin, is dead, and now Sam, her lover and partner, is left to fulfill Erin's dying wish: she wants a home funeral. Some of Sam's fun duties include cleaning her body, plugging her holes, sitting with her in their home for two days watching her rot, and digging a hole in the ground to put her in. And Sam is not up to it. Sure, his small group of twisted friends helps, and so does the weed, but dark humor and a killer buzz aren't enough to pull Sam through this living nightmare of a funeral. When all seems lost, Sam turns to the woman he feels hates him most in the world -- Erin's mother -- and together they struggle to figure out how they can go on in a world without Erin.

A native of Knoxville, TN, Joe (playwright) attended The University of Tennessee with the purpose of becoming a Civil Engineer, but instead graduated in 1997 with a B.A. in Theater and a desire to write plays. His grandfather was not happy.

After moving to Nashville in 2000, he proceeded to write, produce, direct, and act in several of his own plays, including the druggy comedy The Bad Trip; a collection of one-act plays, Love, Sex, and All That Other Crap; and his one-man play, My Reasons for Hating Theater. In 2005, his play Remains was selected to be a part of The Actors' Bridge Ensemble Theatre's New Works Lab. In 2008, the production of his play Religion and Rubber Ducks was named "Best Original Play" of 2008 by Nashville's premiere entertainment publication The Nashville Scene.

In 2010, he was selected to be a playwright-in-residence with The Tennessee Repertory Theater and to participate in the Martha Ingram New Works Lab during their 2010-11 season. He wrote a new play for the Lab -- She's Dead. It was a year-long process of readings, workshops, and rewrites, including a workshop with the Lab's mentor, John Patrick Shanley. She's Dead received a staged reading during The Tennessee Rep's 20011 New Works Festival, and ultimately landed in the hands of MadLab Theatre. It was a good journey.

Joe has also had a couple short stories published, spent six years doing improv comedy, can hacky sack, and wrote a children's novel called "The Monster That Looked Like a Booger", which he is currently adapting into a children's musical for theater.
