KANSAS, one of America's best-known and most successful progressive rock bands, has defined a decade, and today, the backbone of classic rock rests squarely on their songs such as "Dust in the Wind," "Carry on Wayward Son," and "Point of Know Return." The group joins the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and conductor Albert-George Schram for a one night only, outdoor concert performance on the lawn of Chemical Abstracts Service.

The 2010 Nationwide Insurance Picnic with the Pops presents KANSAS at Chemical Abstracts Service (2540 Olentangy River Rd.) on Saturday, July 24, at 8:15 pm. Tickets are $20 for adults and $13 for children if purchased in advance by phone at 614.228.8600, online at www.PicnicWithThePops.com, or in person at the Ohio Theatre Ticket Office (39 E. State St.). At the gate on the night of the show, tickets are $22 for adults and $15 for children. Children 3 and under are free.

KANSAS has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of), one platinum live album (Two for the Show) and a million-selling gold single, "Dust in the Wind." KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks in the 70s and 80s, and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe, and Japan. In fact, "Carry On Wayward Son" was the #2 most-played track on classic rock radio in 1995 and went to #1 in 1997.

In 1998, KANSAS released an orchestral CD, Always Never the Same, recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London. They followed with an orchestral tour accompanied by top-caliber symphonies.

In 2000, KANSAS went back into the studio with original band member and songwriter Kerry Livgren to produce Somewhere to Elsewhere, the first time all six original players had recorded together in 20 years. 2001 brought the much anticipated, digitally remastered release of Masque and Leftoverture, including never released demos and live cuts. The digital remaster of Point of Know Return was released in 2002, and also included two new live cuts.

KANSAS released the two-disc (one CD/one DVD) anthology Works in Progress in 2006, chronicling a third of Kansas' 30 plus year career.
