Columbus All City Orchestra to Perform Free Concert, 5/23

Columbus-All-City-Orchestra-to-Perform-Free-Concert-523-20010101

Conducted by CSO Associate Conductor Peter Stafford Wilson, the Columbus All City Orchestra will present a free, public concert on Wednesday, May 23, at the Southern Theatre at 7:30pm. Now in its fifth year, the orchestra's 55 members are selected from musicians in grades 9-12 attending Columbus City Schools. The program is tuition-free for students and is funded by The Martha Holden Jennings Foundation, The Paul Duke Foundation, The Morris and Emma Woodhull Fund of The Columbus Foundation, and The AT&T Foundation.

The goals of the program are to:

Recognize the achievement of talented and dedicated young musicians in CCS high schools;
Give music students the opportunity to meet others with similar interests from other schools;
Provide a musically enriching experience by learning from professional conductors and musicians;
Motivate CCS students to pursue ongoing participation in their own school ensembles and the performing arts field;
Teach responsibility and commitment by adhering to the rules of strict attendance and proper behavior at rehearsals and at the concert;
Encourage CCS students to audition for CSYO programs; and
Give the students the experience of attending a professional orchestral concert by encouraging students to use their complimentary tickets to attend a Columbus Symphony concert.

CAPA and the Columbus Symphony present the COLUMBUS ALL CITY ORCHESTRA at the Southern Theatre (21 E. Main St.) on Wednesday, May 23, at 7:30pm. Admission is free.
